VISIONLAND MUSIC - German based guitarist Klaus Brendel is making waves with a pair of CDs he recently released on his Visionland label. The 2007 release of Shine On Blue Moon and the 2008 release of Midnight Taxi establish the prolific Brendel as a guitarist who can do just about anything within the instrumental guitar realm. From the Dickie Betts inspired Americana instrumental sound of Shine On Blue Moon to the pop and smooth jazz intro sound of Midnight Taxi, Brendel establishes his guitar credentials with a pair of solid, easy on the ears instrumental sounds. Backed up by solid instrumentation, both CDs should appeal to guitar fans worldwide.

In issue 78 Alan T spoke highly of Klaus Brendel's previous CDs and I am happy to report that the standard is maintained here. My immediate reaction was that I was listening to Earl Klugh if he had discovered overdrive. The opening tracks Phases Of Venus and Thousand Raindrops both have a fine mid-paced groove, but in both cases are also highly melodic. The Latin feel of the third track, with the sound of organ and vibes complementing the guitar lead, is equally impressive. Did l mention that Klaus plays all instruments here? Just when I thought l knew what Klaus was all about, he gives the listener the longest track (4min. 20sec.) on the album, Sierra Norre, with a lovely acoustic opening which manages to be laid back without being soporific, then the overdriven guitar kicks in briefly before the acoustic re-assens itself. Jungle Scooter is a delightfully funky little piece with lots of different sounds and Lions... features some fine bass work and another acoustic interlude. Steamy Roadway is a touch more bluesy, and conjures up a car driving down the highway on a rainy night. On Wandering Waves has a Knopfler-esque vibe in the acoustic section, and is possibly my favourite track. The tempo picks up for the penultimate track with the bass growling away in the background alongside keyboard flourishes. The CD ends with an atmospheric piece which mixes more reflective acoustic passages with wailing electric soloing. Good all-original tunes, well arranged and played, and highly listenable. Recommended, particularly if you like variety in your instrumentals. I'm certainly a fan and look forward to hearing more from Herr Brendel. George Geddes

Der 12. UNISONG International Songwriting Contest in Los Angeles endete für Komponist Klaus Brendel mit einem erneuten Erfolg, dem zweiten Platz für eine seiner Kompositionen. On Wandering Waves ueberzeugte die Jury in der Kategorie Instrumentalmusik auf voller Linie - und so konnte sich Klaus Brendel am Ende über einen 2. Platz für sein Werk freuen. Ein schoener Erfolg und Auszeichnung, und gleichzeitig auch schon eine beinahe liebgewonnene Gewohnheit: Bereits zum 4. Mal landete eine Brendel-Komposition auf dem Siegertreppchen des Unisong-Wettbewerbs in Los Angeles. Maria Pinzger

Transparent arrangierte Gitarren-Instrumentals mit warmen E - und perligen Acoustic-Linien, kompetent gespielt und eingaengig produziert - so koennte man die auf 'Midnight Taxi' zu hoerende Musik des Muencheners Klaus Brendel umschreiben. Der studierte Musiker hat Liveauftritte und Tourneen mit Dieter Reith, Max Greger und Katia Ebstein gespielt, wirkte bei Studioproduktionen u. a. von den Bellamy 8rothers, Curt Cress, Johnny Logan, Nicki, Nicole, Peter Thomas und der SWR Bigband mit - und diesen umfassenden Background hoert man jeder Note von Klaus Brendel an. Ein wirklich guter Gitarrist mit mehr als nur einem tollen Ton!

Midnight Taxi and Shine On Blue Moon
The music on these two albums was composed, produced and performed by Klaus Brendel and they represent a remarkable achievement. The playing and the sound are both excellent but, unusually for this type of venture, they are matched by the quality of the tunes. Each track has a decent melody delivered by sympathetic playing aided by quality arrangements involving a wide range of guitar sounds. Keyboards, bass and drums complete the line-up but its guitars, with electrics to the fore, that are the main feature. My preference is for the tracks with a rocky edge so the Gipsy Eyes flavour of Shine On Blue Moon with its sustained lead work makes a great intro to Shine On Blue Moon. Southern Roses recalls Jessica in its intro and arrangement while Wild And Blue has some tasty acoustic slide behind its bluesy duetting electric leads. The Midnight Taxi album is more consistently laid back in a light, soft rocking way and is another very pleasant all instrumental, all original set of guitar tracks. Alan Taylor

Erfolg bei Songcontest UNISONG
Klaus Brendel wurde fuer seine Komposition 'Wild and Blue' mit dem zweiten Platz beim International Song Contest UNISONG 2003 in der Kategorie Instrumental ausgezeichnet. Brendel erreichte den zweiten Platz unter weltweit mehr als 800 Konkurrenten in der Sparte Instrumental. Ein weiterer Tttel des Kuenstlers 'Jump For Joy' kam in die Finalrunde. Insgesamt nahmen mehr als 5000 Komponisten und Interpreten an diesem Wettbewerb teil. Lutz Hobler

Gitarrist Klaus Brendel auf Erfolgskurs
Der Gitarrist und Komponist Klaus Brendel erreichte beim International Songcontest UNISONG in Los Angeles mit seinem Song 'Lions Going Places' den zweiten Platz in der Kategorie Instrumental. Dies ist bereits seine dritte Spitzenposition in Folge. Eine internationale Jury waehlte aus 4500 Teilnehmern aus mehr als 50 Laendern. Brendel's Song wurde auf seinem aktuellen Album 'Sunshine Ahead' veroeffentlicht.
